Abstract

This investigation was undertaken to develop a promotional model for parenting roles for participation in early childhood learning development. Whilst developing early childhood learning, participatory action research (PAR) was conducted by bringing parents and teachers together. The research was organized in two phases: in Phase I, a model for promoting parents? participation was developed; and in Phase II, the developed model was applied. The research conceptual framework for the investigation was based on the promotion of the participation concept involving partnerships, relationship, environmental factors (development inside the family), networks, and communication (the PRENC model). The results were five consequences of the parenting roles promotion model for participation in early childhood learning development (PRENC Model), which were: 1) principles of the model, 2) components of the model, 3) adherence to the model, 4) evaluation, and 5) interaction. The findings from applying this model showed that parents observed more children?s behavior. They managed their time to participate in developing continuous learning by their children. Using quality time with children was recognized. Parents had learned from their practices which affected their parenting roles for participation in early childhood learning development at home, in school, and from learning resources. Parents should be encouraged to participate in developing early childhood learning, and teachers should be supported to enhance their skills, knowledge, and expertise in collaboration with parents.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to analyze the network structure, synthesize practical lessons and develop a network-based operation model for the committees of sub-district health insurance funds. The study was divided into four steps. In the first step, the network structure in 33 funds was analyzed using questionnaire data, the NetMiner program and cluster analysis statistics. The results revealed that the general structures were low density, high centrality and closeness, with few isolation structures or structural holes. The structures of all funds were able to be divided into two groups based on high and low network structure characteristics. In the second step, lessons from 10 funds were distilled and synthesized using group interviews based on a semi-structured in-depth interview form and content analysis. The results revealed lessons learned covering both similar and different issues. Similar lessons were related to the process of the National Health Security Office. However, different lessons were related to activities that the funds set themselves. In the third step, a network-based operation model was developed. Two models of network-based operation were developed: a participation model, and a monitoring and control model. In the fourth step, models by five experts were verified. The results revealed that these models covered the essential factors and allowable practices in the funds. Based on the findings, it was proposed that the National Health Security Office should apply these models to develop fund operations, and fund committees should select the model that best suits their context.

Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate the competency level of small-scale fishers for operating fishery comanagement. The study was conducted in three phases. The first phase deals with constructing and verifying competency model by reviewing literature to construct the initial model and in-depth interviewing with the fishery co-management experts. Phase II is competency assessment using questionnaires to interview smallscale fishers. A total of 392 fishers which comprised of 204 and 188 persons from the upper and lower provinces on the Andaman coastline, respectively, were sampled. Finally, Phase III concerns with verifying the assessed results by expert focus-groups. Examination of each competency aspect revealed that, from the nine competencies, small-scale fishers in the upper province had knowledge of geo-ecological and local resource at a leading level which was higher than small-scale fishers in the lower province whose knowledge was at the application level. However, smallscale fishers in these provinces had the learning person competency at the beginner level. Considering all aspects of competency simultaneously by cluster analysis, it was found small-scale fishers could be divided into three groups: those who had knowledge of fishery law and geo-ecology but weak in experience; those who were learning person and had holistic thinking; and those who lacked volunteer spirit, leadership, and communication. The study suggests that the competency of small-scale fishers in fishery co-management which should be developed primarily is learning person, follow by holistic thinking, volunteer spirit, leadership, and communication competencies.

Abstract

This article is to propose the characteristic of social-service functions of students from Nakhon Phanom Sangha College who are a new breed in terms of the socially engaged Buddhism concept which is divided into 2 levels; the principle Buddhist perspective and phenomenological fact levels. The level of Buddhist principle perspective reveals that all things are mutually linked and related. Nothing happens and stands independently. This perspective brings about the interrelation of the social units; among monks to monks, monks to society and monks to the environment for the mutual support to harmonize everything to Dhammas. For the phenomenological fact level, Thai people in former times used the Buddhist principle as their aim of living and the aim of their interrelation which included the state aim. The monks therefore; had engaged themselves in maintaining the social equilibrium. Nowadays, Thai society becomes more complex. The monks have been also diversified into unit-types. The new breed of monk students have become the social-working unit with the implementation pattern under the institutional extra-curriculum structure which the monk students are studying. Although the monk students are socially-aimed working with the Buddhism by involving themselves in social activities, the working pattern of the present monk students is different from that in the past which focused on the principle. While the present one focuses on targeted groups according to the modern life style method and focused on target groups rather than “principle” as did some previous works
